Police arrested a man to assist in an investigation following an incident where a pack of meat, believed to be pork, was thrown into the compound of Telaga Air Mosque, here, earlier today.
Penang deputy police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan told Bernama, a man in his 40s was arrested by a few residents of the area who frequently pray at the mosque or kariah as soon as they realized the incident and handed over the suspect to the police.
Meanwhile, Telaga Air Mosque secretary Ahmad Taufiq Saedon said the man was arrested at 2am when he was trying to run away with his motorcycle.
“During the incident, the man threw a plastic package containing pork into the compound of the mosque and ran away with his motorcycle, but the quick action by several kariah made the capture a success,” he said. The mosque’s second Imam, Mohd Asri said, this was not the first time this incident occurred.
He said in several incidents before, they had made police reports and cooperated with the authorities to track the individuals involved.
“We held a Yassin recital ceremony and solat hajat to pray for such thing to never happen again. “Such action causes uneasiness among the residents who came here to pray, in fact some of them are worried,” he said.
